Bob Mumford tells the story of a divorced, heartbroken man, who began attending church in hopes of finding relationship. He was thrilled to be invited to a couples home for dinner, only to discover they had allured him with “relationship” to present a business plan to him.

How terrible it is when so called “Christian” ministries, churches, or individuals prey upon God’s sheep with a hidden agenda that results in their own personal gain. Don’t you think the root of Christ’s anger when he drove out the money changers was that he knew that their motives stood in the way of people coming to worship God and to pray!

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8

We, the people, who make up the ministry of A Place in the Heart, count seeing and experiencing God in all that we do as our greatest success. Therefore, we constantly pray for His guidance as to how to be “pure in heart,” regarding finances.

We have no hidden agendas. Our financial records are always open to anyone who wants to know how we operate. In fact, we are overwhelmed with the miracle of what we have been able to do with such little funds. This ministry is truly a miracle of God!

Our greatest desire is to build meaningful relationship with those whom God leads to be supportive of us. We pray for people to be supportive only if God knits your heart with ours. We pray that all we do is done “in the light” with no hidden motives or agendas.

Long ago Linda and I were involved in prison ministry and went deeply into debt, about $15,000 to be exact. We contacted all our creditors and promised to pay every cent we owed, because we confessed, “We don’t worry so much of what you think of us, but we really care what you think of the Lord we serve!” *

“Dear God, show your favor to your people by giving them wisdom as to what to say ‘yes’ to and what to say ‘no’ to. Lord, we want to live such pure lives that we do not grieve away your precious Holy Spirit by manipulating anyone. May we all give and support only what YOU call us to, believing the promise that: ‘God’s work, done God’s way, never lacks God’s supply.” Amen

If God speaks to your heart about being a supportive part of this ministry, please contact us personally at A Place in the Heart.

*Note: God used the print, “Filled to Overflowing,” and lots of hard work to wipe out all debts that year before the Christmas of 1982. It was the grandest Christmas ever at the Helser house. Praise the Lord!
